John & Anna ENGLISH, Clonturk, Dublin

My ancestors were John and Anna Eliza ENGLISH, and lived in ?Union Lodge, Philipsburgh Ave from around 1830 - 1879.
Anna.E ENGLISH is listed in Griffiths Valuation as owning various tenements including ?2a, 63,64, 65, 67, 77, 78, 79 and 99 Philipsburgh Ave, Ballybough.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Philipsburgh Ave, Dublin is Fairview close to  Ballybough bridge. I wonder if the mention of 'Clonturk' may actually refer to Clontarf ? (*) This is located on the coast and just north of Fairview.

The first listings for Union Lodge on Philipsburgh Ave I could find were in 1848 and 1852 but not for occupants named English :

1848 : Thos. Drury, Union Lodge (also at Merchant's Quay, Dublin City)
1852 : Thos. Crosby, ship owner & sail maker Union Lodge

Later listings (1863, 1868, 1872, 1877 and 1879) show the occupant as :
 
 John Cullen, farmer, Union Lodge
  Philipsburgh Ave, Clontarf

There is a listing for the name English on the avenue between 1850 and 1879 at no. 16 :
 
  1850/52 - Mrs. A.E. English
  1863 - Mrs English
  1872 - Mrs. Merton English
  1879 - Mrs English

In 1880 no. 16 is listed as a Mrs. Connell

No mention that I see of John English at the address.

John English is reported as presumed dead for approx 7yrs in 1848 (Freeman's Journal). His daughter's death certificate lists John as an army officer, while her marriage certificate had listed him as a surgeon dentist.

An article 'The Parish Maker's of Clonturke' in the Freeman's Journal from the 1830's reports on conversations from Surgeon English of Phillipsburgh Ave, Sir Coghill and the Church representative.

Any help in dtermining where J ENGLISH disappeared to would also be appreciated. For good measure, someone kindly found a reference to a christening of a child with parents listed as Wm John  & Anna Eliza ENGLISH. Also a William English, dentist, in Dawson St about 1826 from memory.

I just spotted an earlier entry for Union Lodge in Pettigrew & Oulton's directory of 1834 :

  Isaac English esq. Union Lodge, Philipsburg Ave., Fairview

In 1840 the occupant of Union Lodge is listed as James Knight esq. attorney

There's a possibility John ENGLISH was Wm John ENGLISH, and prior to Philipsburgh Ave, he may have lived in Dawson Ave.

though griffiths valuation for Thomas Drury at Coolock,Clonturk, Ballybough 1848 he is the tenant of Anne E English
 edit there are several baptisms on irish genealogy for the English family including 3 or four for children of Isaac English in the 1820/30s at Bachelors Walk.
