Hi Roger:

All I am sure about is that Jessie Sutherland was born Sept. 3 1828 in Scotland, and that she reports at least once that her parents John and ?? were born in Scotland.

My family's oral history says that "Lady Anne" is supposed to have been Jessie Sutherland's great grandmother.  My work has shown "Lady Anne's" birth year to be from 1752 to 1783.

So let's work things out for the Lady Anne de Burgh and lineage you cite:

Lady Anne de Burgh marries Denis Daly, who beget:

Michael Daly, b. 1744, marries Lady Joanna Gore, who beget:

Denis Daly, later Lt. Galway Militia, marries unknown wife, who beget:

Katherine Daly of Tokery Lodge, who marries John Southerland, Galway Militia, in 1809, and beget (perhaps):

Jessie Sophia Sutherland, born Scotland 1828, who marries James Francis Burke in 1850

Wellllll…..  looking backwards from this point, it works out that Lady Anne de Burgh would be Jessie's great great grandmother.

Problems:
1 generation different than oral history.
Katherine Daly not born in Scotland

Can't discount this connection based on a few discrepancies and my lack of sleep.  Would love to hear more of what you dig up.

Regards,

Joe

Hello All:

Hope you and your families have fared well regarding the Coronavirus.

Went to my mom's the other day and out of the blue she dropped these two watches on me: one that I am certain is Jessie Sutherlands, and the other (silver) watch....  Who knows?  Might be Lady Ann's?

Does anyone know a good website to submit these to, in order to find out any sort of info that might give us an additional clue regarding Jessie Sutherland?

Good to see there continue to be new finds, Joe  :)

Suggest you google antique watch appraisal and see what you find online such as this site www.worthy.com/appraisal/watches/antique

HI there,

I descend from William L"Amy Daly who is mentioned here as arrived in South Africa in 1831.  He was a surgeon .  He landed at St Helena Bay and became a Surgeon in Malmesbury .  The ordinance was changed and he could not practice as surgeon anymore.  He appealed the Governor and I think 1841 was granted licence as an Apothecary.  Eventually became a Judge  or Justice of the Peace and died In St Helena Bay.  What is interesting is that the name Hamilton L'Amy andRamsay are throughout this line,  He married a Barbara Croeser.  I am descended from his eldest Son who was Willem (William) Johannes Daly.  I do not know what boat he arrived on or anything about his parents to siblings.  His qualifications were apparently lost in one of his attempts to register in South Africa , as he returned to the United Kingdom.  My understanding is that he trained while in the Navy ????? not sure anyone has any information regarding his ancestors.  On his landing in South Africa is is registered as being from Ballinasloe Ireland.

Hi there I find this very interesting.  I am a Descendant of William Daly 1799 Ballinasloe .  Interestingly I have done dna as also another descendant in that line and neither of us have Daly matches.  He is recorded as landing in South Africa at St Helena Bay in 1831(we find no record of exactly how)  We do know he is a naval surgeon and subsequently moves to Malmesbury in South Africa.  His qualification to practise here is challenged and he travels back to the UK to sort this out. He is eventually registered as an apothecary in South Africa.  He later becomes a justice of the peace/judge and dies in1866.  I have dna matches to his son's wife, who was a Krige.  Complete brick wall for me.
