Looking for Daniel Green
« on: Tuesday 30 November 10 08:25 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help. I am looking for information on my gg grand dad, his name was Daniel Green, I have a rough birth date of 1893, but I have no idea where he was born.  He married Lily Guest in 1920 in Nottingham and they lived in Old Basford, he was a labourer and ex army  but the  name on the marriage cert says Damber Green.
Also his father was listed as James Green deceased.

I have one of his childrens birth certs and it lists Daniel Green as father and he was a Coal Carter.

Other than that I know nothing else and have been unable to find anything about him, my mum says she thought he might be Irish but without knowing where he was born am stuck.

any ideas where to start?
thanks

Hi Liz

Is there an address on the marriage certificate and does it give an occupation for James?

Any witnesses?

Hi

Have you tried looking at the Electoral Register for Mitchell Street  around the time he was married?  Also old directories.  I notice there is a Daniel Thomas Green living at 7 Francis St, Nottingham in the 1914-1915 Wrights directory.

Hello- just seen your search for Daniel Green and Lily Guest.
We have Guest connections going back in Burntwood Staffordshire, around 1880's my Unsworths moved to Nottingham to work in the local collieries as the mines near them were worked out.
The men were at Trowell Pitt ? but had moved from Bramcote area in Nottingham in the early 1900's. I think an Unsworth married a Guest as when Florence was 13 she was at their house for a census.
Hope you find more on Greens, mine were in Denby in Derbyshire prior to 1890 and moved again to work in new pits in Kirkby in Ashfield/ Annesley Notts.
