I know what you mean - I much preferred the Pilot site.  When looking just for a marriage - I am sticking to the advanced search option

The Pilot site was more specific in that you had to define where Lancashire was (ie) England - and you only got matches for that area

The marriage registers for St Michael in the City were destroyed during the air raids in World War Two, so the only way to get more information is to apply for the certificate.
