hills of meadowtown
« on: Monday 29 November 10 16:11 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about the Hill family of Meadowtown near Worthen> John Hill born 1772 and his wife Elizabeth in particular. The records  on microfiche at the archives were too blurry to see anything. Any help would be great.

Hi

Nothing too concrete, but possibilities from the WPR:

30 Aug 1801 Thomas, s. of John & Elizabeth Hill, Meadowtown.

22 May 1799 James Hill & Jane Thomas, possibly married.

21 Feb 1792 James Hill & Margaret Adney, possibly married.

Hope this is a help.

Regards
Geoff

Thanks Geoff
Thomas 1801 was the Son of john and Elizabeth Hill of meadowtown.  he was a miner and died in his early 50's. Unfortunately it is John and Elizabeth who don't seem to exist before that date! There is an old deeds document that says there was a john Hill in Meadowtown in 1805, but so far that is the best i can do.
Thankyou for trying!
All the best  Jan

I googled Meadowtown , Shropshire and it came up with
Meadowtown.Minsterely,Shrewsbury.....
found this , though it is only a Submitted record
18th August 1800, Shrewsbury - the marriage of John Hill to Elizabeth Poulter

might be worth just making a note of Elizabeths maiden name in case it crops up in future research...

Dear Allan,
Thankyou for that, Perhaps that's the right couple! I hope so. Anyway, i shall keep an eye out for Poulter's and see what turns up.
Thanks again Jan

Hi Jan,
If you could give me any information about meadowtown I would really appreciate it. I havr family who come from there and from what I can understand it was a very small village. My family names in and around Meadowtown include: Davies, Williams, Gardner, Wardman and Ellis.

Thanks
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Sorry to be so long in replying to your message, I have only just seen it! I have been to Meadowtown and it is indeed a very tiny hamlet snuggled in a dip between high hills. It is quite off the beaten track and to my mind(I may be bias) picturesque.! There was a small (probably Methodist) Chapel, which is now converted into a property and a farm or possibly two and a few more scattered cottages. Near by on a hill is a landmark visible for miles locally called The Callow, which is a circular mound of trees on top of a round hill. It was late Autumn when i visited and so it was not at it's sunniest, but i did take a few photos. If you would like me to email them to you please contact me on my email address at (*)
Best Wishes Jan
