Old map of stroud
« on: Monday 29 November 10 13:39 GMT (UK) »
The story goes that a farmer worse for wear comes out of the Swan Inn, Stroud gets on his horse and takes the wrong turn - he ends up at the top of a building under construction (Stroud subscription rooms)  - he survived the horse didnt !! Apparently they named a street after him something like Radcliff/or Ratcliffe Way (in actual fact the spelling should have been Ractliffe ........ ) There apparently is a childrens mural depicting this - see attached - trying to find a map that would show this street name on it .....  Apparently this happened about 1833
Many thanks

Powell - Ton Pentre
Phillips - Llwynypia
Howell - Llannon/Llwynypia/Cardiff/Pennsylvania,USA
Ungoeds - Llannon,Carmarthenshire/Australia
