Great show although very emotional   :'( .
Do you think there is any chance they could ever do a series for everyday folk like the rest of us?!

Diana has explained previously, Mclachlan, that it was tried in England in a similar format (not called WDYTYA though) and it didn't rate. And television shows have to rate.

Have copied a quote from the other thread to put onto this one, as Kris advised.   :)

I have to say I found Magda's episode quite different to any Australian ones we've seen before.......two very interesting and obviously emotional stories ......and there must be so many more like that in the backgrounds of Australia's multicultural society.

But how lucky for Magda to have WDYTYA to help her find all that information.

I too have been wondering if Magda was given any more information about the ten children who didn't survive.

i enjoyed the episode very much.
allthough not going back very far and concentrating on just 1 or 2 ancestors is getting to be a bit boring. there was nothing in the show that couldnt have been found in a couple of weekends, no matter how intersesting it was.
also do we have to have a preview of whats coming up at the start of the show. im sure most of us are able to keep our interest for an hour without having to know whats going to happen

I agree with all that Perth said.

I also think there were many unanswered questions surrounding this episode (as often there is).

I do sometimes think that it would be better/more interesting (?) to continue further back through the generations and just touch on the relevant stories rather than go into so much detail about one or two people. However I realize that there is usually a specific angle to each programme, but sometimes I find that I am left a bit wanting especially when it is such a close relative as a father or grandfather that is the extent of the ancestry traced. In these cases it is more like a programme about a couple of interesting ancestors than a genealogy programme. It doesn't really help our understanding of Who We Think They Are.

I also avoided reading about the programme in our TV Guide as even a quick glimpse gave a lot of the story away. It's nice to get a surprise sometimes and I would like to see the press releases give out less information.

The film clips on WDYTYA are always excellent (as are the UK ones) - great archive footage.

Still, all in all, a great programme - great series - very enjoyable.  :)

Loved it!! It's so much better when the person isn't afraid to show thier feelings, and gets right into it.  Magda is a very popular woman, and the episode was great!!.
I couldn't believe it was an hour, either, as there were only 2 ancestors shown.  Not a criticism, both ancestors were fascinating, time just flew by!!

Hi Jude
I agree just having 2 ancestors was quiet okay when their lives were full of mystery and sadness to share it with everyone I think Magna is brave as it was her grandfather close to her.As for the deaths of the children my ancestor lost 7 children all ages and on the mothers  early death found she died of consumption
so the infection would have been passed to her babies and children without her knowing as it would appear they died of a cold or flu. Also damp and cold homes with mould would have been an issue.
The war hit home with me as well as I lost love ones in the war and some came home but with shell shock I now know what that means.
What a fantastic show I havent missed one yet.I found Jack Thompsons of great interest with all his royality he called it he had a convict.
Trouble with show NOT LONG ENOUGH I COULD WATCH IT FOR HOURS  silky
