From the research I have undertaken on this family I believe that your BULFIN has no immediate connection with Sir William or his son John Simon. He just happens to have married the daughter of a man named John CARROLL.
 
These are the possible children of Sir William (disclaimer - I have not sighted birth/baptism certificates): Sydney Catherine 1844; John Simon 1845; Catherine Letitia 'Kate' ?; Margaret Elizabeth c1850; Henrietta Clara 1850; William Joseph 1854; Pearson Berkeley 1857; Austin James 1858; Patrick Stanislaus 1860; Richard Pearson ?; Catherine A. ?.

As for John Simon, his children were Margaret Mary 1870, Richard ?; Samuel F. ?; Patrick Pearson 1879; Mary Gertrude 1880.

My interest in the family is that my great grandfather's (Francis Joseph FITZPATRICK) sister (Mary Eliza) married John Simon CARROLL.

Thank you for your reply. According to Jeanne Winder Bulfin, author of 'The Bulfins of Derrinlough', Lord Mayor Patrick Bulfin was married to 'Theresa Cline Carroll, daughter of a former Lord Mayor of Dublin'. This was Sir William Carroll, not as wrongly stated in a previous post, John Carroll. He would therefore have been a brother-in-law of John Simon.

I also came across the following in Connellan family pedigree - Library Ireland - see website.

A Dr. Francis John Boxwell Quinlan married Maude Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Dr Sir William Carroll, in 1867. This could be the 'Margaret Elizabeth' referred to in your list.

DonnaMaria, I would love to read your bio of Sir William Carroll. Is this the Sir William who was consul on Saint Helena during Napoleon's incarceration? I am trying to research my 3rd Great Grandfather William, father of Henry H who was born on the island.

I think "C.A." may stand for "Charge d' Affaires".

The Sailor's Magazine & Naval Journal, 1838 describes him as William Carroll, Consular Commercial Agent.

Hello, I am researching William Carroll and family.  His son Patrick Stanislaus was an entertainer for JC Williamson (Princess Theatre) in Melbourne.  I would love to see the information from Donna Maria Carlin but it has been a while since people were active in this forum.  Regards Cath
