BOWLING CEMETERY LOOKUP - BOND - COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 27 November 10 22:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for a bit of help trying to find where my grandfather, gt grandfather and Gt Gt Grandfather are buried.  I suspect Bowling Cemetery, Bradford, as they lived in that area.  Their names are:

Frederick William BOND 1895- 1963 (His wife Nellie died in Cumbria in 1993, not buried in Bowling)
William BOND 1863-19 Apr 1928 and his wife Ann (JOWETT) 1863-1949
William Frederick BOND 1828-1880

All three lived in Bowling, my grandparents lived on Bowling Hall Road opposite the park.  Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Hello Abbey2,
I have had a look in the Bowling Burial register for the names and dates you gave.
Firstly,
The graveyard did not open until 1889, so William Frederick Bond is not there.
Frederick William Bond, with the dates you gave is not listed, i did 2 months either side as well.

William Bond,  Internment No 50826, Section W grave no 15, Concecrated, Buried 24 April 1928 at 3 pm,
Died 19 April 1928, aged 64 Years, a woolsorter, Abode, 11 Lodge Terrace.
Parents, Frederick William and Grace. Informant Ann Bond.

Ann Bond, Internment No 78248, Section W Grave 15 Concecrated, Buried 12 Jan 1949 at 2:45 PM
Died 9 Jan 1949 aged 85 Years, Widow of William, 11 Lodge Terrace, Parents, John Jowett. Informant, E Hodgeson (says son)

When the weather picks up and the snow melts i will look for a gravestone, The Grave is Pathside so will be easy to find.
Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks very much for looking, and the information you sent.  Although you have given me a bit of a mystery to solve.  The informant of Ann BOND (nee JOWETT) you say was listed as E Hodgeson a son of Ann.  I don't have a son or son in law of Ann called E Hodgeson.  So I will need to track him down somehow.  William and Ann had four children, 3 daughters and a son, Frederick William, my grandfather.  The plot thickens.

Thanks very much and Merry Christmas.

Bob

Hi Abbey,

I have had a look at my notes again and there was an aflection or rather a squiggle, looks like a V up in the air after Hodgeson.
The informant could be the undertaker and the person writing the record up could just have got it wrong.
i am not allowed to print the record, although i have printed the grave section map, if you need any more help get in touch.
Regards,
Andy

Hi Calverley Lad,

Yes the one you have found is the father of William BOND.  William Frederick BOND was the son of Abraham.  I think William Frederick BOND died in 1880.  He was married to Grace BROOK, but she remarried  following WFB's death, to Benjamin SCHOFIELD who I think died in 1893.  Grace lived on until 1922, but I don't know where either are buried.  Possibly with WFB or Benjamin.

I have gone back further from Abraham, to his father Peter, and grandfather John b abt 1706.  Peter and John are buried at Tong, but I don't know where Abraham was laid to rest.  He died in 1870.

Thanks,

Bob

Before I go off topic on your Bond family, have you had a look here: http://vitaldb.moorlandit.com/index.php
(It is the database on Calverley website, just put in the surname in box)
Now going off topic, are you aware of a Quaker connection with your Bond family?
One of my lot married a Bond over at Tong, so you might have to scratch about to locate any Quaker records.
But chasing the older records can become quite interesting.

Hi Brian,

Yes I have used the site many times and a wonderful resource.  I have recently found a possible Quaker connection which I found on the Calverley site after they listed the Quaker records.  Some very interesting information.  Where do you link into the BOND line?  My email is bob2bond at gmail.com if you want to reply off list.

Bob

My connection is via Martha Yewdall married one James Bond (the original 007?) 1720.
Have you had a look at Bradford Family History website?
http://www.bradfordfhs.org.uk/
Just scroll down to publications  then do a search for 'Bond', should give you an idea where the Bond named people are buried.
Or why not fire off an e mail asking where if any are your lost Bonds are buried.
