George Rhind
« on: Saturday 27 November 10 20:37 GMT (UK) »
Am looking for info on George Rhind...he was named as the father on Bessie Rhind's birth cert.. dated 6th May 1905.  He was a farm servant.

Bessie was born in Millbrex, Fyfie, Aberdeenshire and her mother was Christina Calder who was a domestic servant.  Christina married Alexander Cantley Thain three years after Bessies birth and no one knows who George was or what happened to him.

can you help?

thanks
Beth

The 1901 census only has 2 entries for a George Rhind in Aberdeen - both of them too young to have fathered Bessie

There is a George Rhind b 1887 Aberdeen but living in Inverness

There are several other entries for that name but none with an Aberdeen connection and some were also married

Without more information it would be impossible to pinpoint the right person - I am assuming that Christina was not previously married to George?

Hello Beth

A search of www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk brings up 17 George Rhinds in Scotland for the 1901 census.  4 in Aberdeenshire, 2 children and and 18 year old living in Turriff and and 50 year old (at New Byth)who also has one of the George Rhind children, so would assume it's not him.  Hopefully someone with access to the census records could post the Turriff record.  At the end of the day it's going to be  adifficult one.

1901 RHIND GEORGE M 18 TURRIFF /ABERDEEN 247/00 005/00 008

Is an address given for 'your' George Rhind on the birth entry?

Regards,   Steve  :)

According to the 1901 census George was living in Burnside House. He was 18, a ploughman & born in New Byth. The farmer was a James Beaton. I found this on scotlandspeople website as I couldn't find this info on ancestry.
