Hi there,

Have you checked DAY and/or HATCHER as keywords at the NSW SRO online indexes   ;)
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/

Or at the NSW BDM online indexes  ;)

Hey great work majm, & thanks for the links!!!

Jamison I am astounded...well done finding the Ferrey family, I've been searching for the last couple of days with out any success.

Any clues as to their location in Hampshire?

Does anyone know if there is a connection between the Ferrey family listed above and the Ferrey family from Christchurch Hampshire just 9 miles down the road west of Milford Hampshire? http://www.communigate.co.uk/dorset/clhs/page13.phtml

This is Great Work people!!!

Stephen

This looks like the FERREY family in 1861 - mistranscribed on the index I have as Terrey. - enumerator's handwriting is not always easy to read!

1861 at 5 Union St, Southampton St Mary
William Ferrey   40, seaman, b Southampton
Caroline Ferrey   37, b Lymington
Charles Ferrey   11,, b Southampton
Caroline Ferrey   9, b Southampton
Mary J Ferrey   5, b Southampton
John Ferrey   3, b Southampton
Alice Ferrey   1, b Southampton

1871, listed as Ferry
at Cook St, Southampton St Mary.
All other information is the same, except that John has an occupation  - mariner, and William is also 'mariner'
William Ferry   56
Caroline Ferry   47

Mary J Ferry   16
John Ferry   14
Alice Ferry   12
Henry Ferry   10

1881 at 10 Duke St, Southampton St Mary
Caroline FERRY, widow, age 56, place of birth given as Milford.  there are two lodgers with her - Jane and Frederick DOLE

1891 at 27 Duke St, Southampton St Mary
Caroline FERRY   67, b Lymington
Hilda Pickering   11, granddaughter, b Southampton
Alice Pickering   8, granddaughter, b Southampton

FreeBMD shows these deaths, although the age is not right for William (ages given on census are a bit flaky though) and a couple of years out for Caroline  ???

 Dec qr 1873
William FERRY 52
, death reg at Southampton   Vol  2c, page   6

 Mar qr 1900
Caroline   FERRY
74, death reg Southampton,    Vol 2c page   34

Stephen: FreeBMD has some deaths registered in Christchurch for FERREY

Judith
DYER - Wilts, London, Somerset, MIDLANE - Hants, Wilts, SONE - Hants, WRIGHT - London, Hants, SEAGER - Deptford, DWYER, FERGUSON - Victoria, MASON - Woodford Vic, BALLARD - South Wales, GOULDBY - Lowestoft

Hi there,

At the NSW BDM online index there’s a marriage for Phoebe Hatcher to Albert Holmes in 1892, registered at Bourke (#2595).  So from one of the 13 volumes of the History of Bourke prepared by the Bourke Historical Society there’s the following:

...." HOLMES Albert (Snr)
Married at North Bourke when he was a teamster. She had held a ribbon at the Railway opening. "Marion Downs" from 1915; "Kerribree" from 1919. "Pirillie" from 1927. Wife Phoebe (Hatcher), born Riverina, died "Durham" aged 67. ..."

Most likely this would be Phoebe’s indexed d.c. details
Phoebe HOLMES, parents given names recorded as John and Mary Ann, registered 1940 at Bourke #12352
And this would most likely be her birth indexed
Phoebe HATCHER, parents given names John and Mary Ann, registered at Wagga 1873 #19796

There’s also quite a number of other mentions of HATCHER and of HOLMES with many names of people who may still be living.

Cheers,  JM
