Hi Joan,

Thanks for that. Samuel PILE and Mary Ann SHARPE are my wife's great-great-great-great grandparents. As for their children, so far I only have Elizabeth. She had a daughter out of wedlock (probably Robert FRENCH's child) named Sarah Jane PILE, who also went to Australia aboard the vessel China. Robert and Elizabeth had another 15 children.

Here is what I have on her:-

Sarah Jane PILE
1826 b 22/03/1826 Robertsbridge, East Sussex.
1842 at Petersham NSW married Eli HILDER (b 01/11/1811 Mountfield, East Sussex d 10/08/1846 Narellan NSW)
1842 Marriage reg indexed as Sarah Jane PIALL and Heli HILDER
06/01/1847 at St Lawrence's, Sydney NSW married William Samuel KING (b 1825 Hackford, Norfolk d 1890)
1912 d 13/08/1912 O'Connell Street, Newtown NSW.
children:
Joseph HILDER b 03/07/1843 Petersham NSW d 1918 Marrickville NSW
Walter Robert HILDER b 1845 Petersham NSW d 1936 Marrickville NSW
Harriet Jane KING b 27/02/1848 Sydney NSW d 27/07/1937 Bankstown NSW
Alice KING b 09/09/1849 Sydney NSW d 1932
Sarah Hannah KING b 1851 d 1903 Ashfield NSW
Richard William KING b 1853 d 1937
Robert KING b 1856 d 1935
William KING b 1858 Sydney NSW d 1863 Newtown NSW
Amelia Caroline KING b 1861 Glebe NSW d 1922 Marrickville NSW
Albert KING b 1865 Sydney NSW d 1919 Newtown NSW

I hope some of this is useful to you,

Peter.

Thankyou Peter for all that info.  Our brother in law will be pleased with all that.  He's always been told as a child that the French family were related to Governor King - perhaps there's a connection?????
Greg's grandparents were  - William George KING and Maude King

Hi Peter.  Sorry it's been a couple of days for contact.  Oops, made a big booboo before.
Greg's g'parents were William G FRENCH, NOT King and Alexandria Maud KING.
William George FRENCH b.1875 d.1961
Alexandria FRENCH, nee KING b.1875 Waterloo district NSW d. 1963 Marrickville NSW district
marriage date - 1904
Alexandria's parents:  Frederick KING and Emma SMITH
Frederick's parents:  James Kelsey KING and Mary BAKER

Don't know if there is a connection to Governor KING or not as yet.
Joan
PARENTS;
William Thomas FRENCH married Mary Ann HARE 1875

Not too good at this yet, so hope I've set that out right Peter.

Motor funeral. Sydney friends travelling by funeral train alight at Rookwood platform.
WOOD COFFILL LIMITED  Motor Funeral Directors
1930 Death Reg as Mary J FRENCH - father James, mother Caroline

I record her as Mary Jane because almost everything except her marriage registration supports that as opposed to Mary Ann.  I suspect there was a transcription error.  A Mary A HARE was also born 1852 NSW to parents John and Ellen, but our Mary Jane’s birth and death were both registered as parents being James and Caroline.  Furthermore, the death notice and funeral notice in the Sydney Morning Herald record her as Mary Jane, and people rarely mis-spell their mother’s name for that.

I hope this is of use to you,

Peter.
