Brackenbury - Leicester
« on: Tuesday 23 November 10 13:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

Trying to ascertain a little more information regarding the following individual:

Alfred Castle Brackenbury

b) 4th Qtr 1900
Appears on the 1901 census living with his aunt Mary Brackenbury (and her siblings)
d) buried 14.JUN.1901 Welford Rd Cemetery

He is buried with  his garndfather, Hubert Brackenbury (bur. 30.MAY.1899).

I am trying to find out what the names of his parents were. Not having any luck. I suspect it's possible he may have been an ileigitimate child since none of Mary's siblings living with her at the time are married.

They did have one married brother - Richard T. Brackenbury, but he was married in summer of 1900. There is no record of him having a child named Afred - not to mention, if it was him, his bride would have been several months pregnant when they were married. Highly unliklely.

According to the census, the Ecclesiatical parish was St. Matthews but I think they lived in the part of Leicester that was once called (?) St. Matgaret.

I'm thinking maybe the church would have records of a baptism and funeral, but I've no idea what parish/church they attended.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I see from your other thread that Mike has already checked the St. Margaret's records and you are/were waiting to hear from the record office in Leicester on the St Matthew's records.

If you don't have any success there I think your only hope is to purchase the birth certificate - if he was illegitimate at least you would find out who his mother was.

Well, no luck with St. Matthew's either so.....it's possible (especially if he was born sick/ill) thathe was baptized at homeand it was never recorded - could have also been buried with a "grave-side" service in which case it's also possible the pastor never recorde the event in parish registers.

Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to "bite the bullet" and cough up the fee for the birth/death reords at the Registry.
