Missing birth/death records
« on: Monday 22 November 10 20:42 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any tips to help me look for a relation of mine.  While growing up in the 50's I had lots of cousins/2nd/once removed.  My grans sister had 2 children, she married later in life at about 34 in 1939, her name was Agnes Maggs and she married Leslie Palmer and they had 2 children Christopher and Jenny (born 1944), Chris was older but I can find no birth, he died after 1970 (he was at my wedding) but I can find no death, I don't know where to look - I have been on Free BMD and Genes Reunited. Any help would be grateful.  Thanks Jay

It looks as though he may have inverted his first and second names:

Conrad C PALMER  (mmn MAGGS) b. Jun Q 1942,  Bristol 6a 34

Christopher Conrad PALMER, b. 27 Apr 1942, d. Sep Q 1974, Weston-Super-Mare 22 1148

Thank you so much, I was pulling my hair out with frustration - a bit new at this.  I am impressed at the speed.  Thanks again.  Jay :)

Hi Jay

Some useful information which might help you as you go along

Freebmd is a volunteer project, they are transcribing the GRO indices and putting them online, a new batch of 1000's of entries goes up monthly. However, it is only complete upto the 1920's and 1930's (with some gaps) which is why you couldn't find what you are looking for. They have started on the 1940's and it won't be long before a lot more of that era is available for free.

The GRO England & Wales Birth Marriage and Death Indices are online at Ancestry upto 2005 and FindMyPast until 2006 but you will need a subscription to view the details you find in the search results.

If you haven't got a subscription, check out your local library to see if they have free access to Ancestry Library Edition. The indices are available through that.

Information after 2007 is available at a few locations around the country, London, Birmingham, Manchester, PLymouth & Bridgend.
