Simon Scrase b1791 St George's, Bristol: Completed
« on: Monday 22 November 10 18:03 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone can lend a helping hand with the family of this man.

Acording to the census returns for 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871, Simon was born in St George's, Bristol circa 1791.

He died in 1874 and for at least the period of the census returns, he resided in St Mary Ottery, Devon  (Honiton District).

There appears to be a marriage for him registered in the Honiton District for 1837 to Ann (either Amos or Benwell). Ann was already about 35 and the couple had three children between them.

It looks very much as if this was a second marriage for Simon but due to the fact that I cannot access the Parish records for Bristol, there is no way that I can check on the children of the first marriage or, indeed if Simon had any siblings himself.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Mel

Ps I have just found his christening date of 27 June 1790 at St George's with Simon and Betty as his parents.

COMPLETE - Many thanks :)

Mel,

If Simon's Dec. qtr marriage to Ann A or Ann B (as given in freebmd) was his second marriage, his marriage cert. will indicate that his status was widower;  so your best move seems to be to obtain the certificate from the GRO.

Bristol has many parishes/places of worship as you can see at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm so you might be advised to search some of them if they have M batches for the appropriate years.

Regards

Chas

P.S. See also the Resources Messages index for Gloucestertshire LDS missing batches.  By the way, changing the prefix C to an M can often bear fruit.    Chas

Hello Chas and Sharon

Many thanks for your replies and leads.

I have also trawled the Christening records and I now have more Scrases that I can shake a stick at. :)
