How do you suggest to proceed on looking for a person John Holland born ?? where ?? married 1916 Ethel Holland, Middlesbrough, Daughter (*) s (*) second marrage Middlesbrougn date ?? to either a Hieron or a bland. Dod after 1927. Any advice please.

I would suggest you start by purchasing the marriage certificate for Ethel Holland and John Phillips.
They married in the 4th (December) quarter of 1916 and the reference number is Middlesbrough 9d 987.
You can order the certificate here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
The certificate will give you the name of John's father, and also John's age and this will provide a starting point for you.

There's a 1936 marriage in Middlesbrough as well, to Lily with the other surname. May be connected.

John Phillips, born 13th August 1890.
Died June quarter 1977, North Tyneside, Tyne & Wear.
