I have an ancestor whom served in the RAMC in WW1 and was sadly killed on 27/10/1918.  His name was John Arthur Toon, orignally from Birstall (Leicestershire) and he enlisted in Sheffield.  His rank was that of a private and his army number was 34251.  Is there any way I can find out more about him?  Where he served for instance?

I don't know how long he had been with 1/1 Lowland FA, but there are four war diaries covering their existence. The one covering the time of his death, which runs from April 1918 to April 1919 is in WO 95/2894. Unfortunately it is only available at Kew.

I can't see an entry for him yet at ramc-ww1.com, but if you contact Barbara, who runs the site, with any details you have, plus photo of him or his grave, if you have them, she will add him to the data-base, I'm sure.
