In the town where I live it is generally accepted that a local civilian was awarded the MBE or OBE in WW1 for their part during a fire at a local munitions store. All knowledge of the award I have gained so far is only by word of mouth but without any written clarification.
I believe I know the name of the person and the approximate date of the award, however having trawled through the difficult access to the London Gazette medal publications for 1914 through to 1925, I have yet to identify this award.
Can anybody please suggest how I can pin this elusive item down please.
