SAVAGE, SELWYN, SMALLWOOD
« on: Sunday 21 November 10 00:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for all and any information about the ancestors of Emma Savage (b. 1840 in Surrey Street, Middlesex, London, England, d. 1918 in Victoria, Australia).

Emma was the daughter of William Savage (1800-1851) and Martha Selwyn (1801-1840).

William Savage's parents were:
William Savage (1772-1821) and possibly Margaret Smallwood (1774-1814).

Martha Selwyn's parents were (possibly) Jasper Selwyn (b. 1780) and Mary.

Can anybody help, please?

Seems like we have the right people - and are on the right track.

The marriage date fits nicely - I had the same year, 1825.

I've got William Savage d. 14th Nov 1851, buried at Muirhead Cemetery. Perhaps he died on 14th, was buried on 22nd. Cemetery details need checking, too. How do I go about this?

Thanks!

Um... any more info?

He signed as Jesper Selwyn, she signed as Mary Schole??
Witness Wm Hill, Margaret Golding

1754-1921 marriages have index of St Nicholas, Plumstead with Jasper SELWYN and Mary SELELOU

Can't find that name anywhere, but there is a Mary SEARLES baptised at St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich on 28 Jul 1775, d/o William & Rebecca SEARLES, born Jul 11.

There is a Mary SELWYN death 20 Sep 1843 at Camberwell Workhouse age 68, buried 27 Sep

St Pancras Parish Church burial
1803 Jun 28, Jesper SELWIN, Battle Bridge, age 53, died Jun 25

Number of children to a Jasper SELWYN and Mary from 1787-1796 at St Leonard Shoreditch. Your Jasper looks to have been baptised Dec 1780 at St Clement Danes, s/o Jasper and Mary, with a couple of others up to 1785, according to IGI.

Most of the SELWYNs appear to have been Clergy or Solicitors.

This is all fantastic stuff! Thank you! Keep it coming.

Anything more on 'Margaret'?
 <<St Leonard Shoreditch

There had been family rumours that Jasper Selwyn was a solicitor, and this all confims it, but people have constantly kept confusing him with the famous Charles Jasper Selwyn - and we knew that he was NOT immediately connected to our lot (though perhaps distantly). So finding OUR Jasper's family has been another of those dreaded brick walls.
