Hello Kate,
Many thanks for the information about Percy Augustus Learoyd, it certainly does help. I was particularly interested in his businesses in Huddersfield and how they linked to where he lived. I have read in the local press that he was very supportive of those playing Rugby League, and allowed them to hold practice games in the grounds of his home or works (not sure which). I have not found any children from the marriage, but noticed that on the 1871 census he was lodging at The George Hotel - recognised as the birthplace of Rugby League. I found the Williamson and Learoyd business listed in a Huddersfield trade directory, but it appeared to be quite short lived. Do you know how many of the family homes were called "The Grove," and do you know if there are any images/portraits of him available on the internet? Two books are currently being written as part of the Rugby Heritage Project, and as Percy was very influential, he deserves a mention. Kind regards
