seems they had a sad beginning all in the workhouse, doesnt seem to be any sign of parents for Charlotte or Alice, cant find birth records for any of them

Not looked for Alice- was she also in the workhouse?

It is really sad isn't it. The Portsmouth workhouse lists seem to go on forever!

 I Have found one Alice Turvill living in Surrey, this could be her as this is where her husband William Bashford lived too, need to work back from there, also need to find there marriage birth etc.

Not sure how to get any further back with Charlotte or her possible siblings. doesnt seem to be anything for them before 1861.

have tried looking for Amelia in 1851 as she was born in 1849, but cant find her?

We can rule our Amelia Shellshear - 1861 has Amelia Shelser with parents Charles and Sarah.

1851 has a William and Sophia Shelter (transcribed) -could be Sh**lter but need to look further
