R.C. Reformatory Holme on Spalding Moor

Hi,

I've been researching Thomas Stanton (b. 1863 Mold, Flint) and it seems from the 1881 Census that he was a resident at the above school for boys.

Can anyone tell me more about this "institution" and is there any way of finding out Thomas's crime.

I am in possession of a book on 'The Yorkshire Catholic Reformatory Market Weighton', which is the one you are talking about.  The book was published by the East Yorkshire Local History Society in 1996 and could still be available to you.  It contains some names (unindexed) and photographs of the uniforms etc they wore at the time you are interested in.  I will glance through and see if the boy you are interested in is mentioned.
You should be aware that the scool has recently achieved national notoriety due to the alleged abuse of children there.

I can find no trace of this boy in the book I have mentioned.  I understand that a register of admissions from 1856 is held in the East Riding Archives at The Treasure House in Beverley.
