regular soldier in India 1928-1939

where can i get service details of thomas Anderson,who served in the kings own during 1928-1939 he died at the age of 28 in 1941,he servered in India with either the 1st or 2nd battalion,he also boxed for the army under the name of Bull Anderson,i have tried Nat archives and hit a blank wall,i would like to know what campaign medals he would have had
as i am his last surviving niece i feel i should know has he seems to have been forgotton by every one

Hi Liz

The NA only have records for men discharged before the end of 1920. For later records you have to apply to the MOD -  http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html - it costs £30 and takes about 6-9 months.

He is not on CWGC so I presume he did not die while serving. You therefore will need to supply a copy of the death certificate. You need to give them as much information as possible. Ideally they like the man's army number, but they may accept just his regiment and date of birth. I would first contact the King's Own museum in Preston to see what they have.

If he left the army before the start of WW2 he would not have received any WW2 medals. There were two medals issued for service in India in the 1930s. As a last resort you will have to go to Kew and look at the medal roll. It will give you his number at least.

hi both looking in deaths for 1941 with a birth year around 1913 there is only 4 ,3 are for the raf and one for the r marines so widened the search by 2 years and got this one for a thomas anderson reg dist liverpool north jan-march  1940 his age 27  vol 8b p 601  perhaps he was on leave when he died  !!
