Turnbull
« on: Monday 15 November 10 06:17 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find ancestors connected to a Turnbull family in Northumberland in the 1800's. My direct blood line is the Cloughs, but Elizabeth Turnbull born 1781 and who died in 1856 in Seaton Sluice is my 5 x Great Grandma on my maternal side.

She married a man named Robert Brotherick, by 1841 she was registered as a Pauper and living alone. She had four children:

Elizabeth Brotherick B: 1808
Edward Brotherick B: 1820-1871
Mary Brotherick B: 1820
Robert Brotherick B: 1821

I cannot find anything at all on the Turnbull family, so any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Jemilla

Marriage Familysearch Pilot;
Robert BROTHERICK
Elizabeth TURNBULL, 22 March 1806, Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland

You say she died 1856, if so then she would appear on the 1851 Census which would give her exact age and place of birth.
Have you found her in 1851?

Trish :)

Elizabeth and Robert were married by licence rather than banns so hopefully there will be some further information about them in marriage bonds,

I have been unable to find the other two children with refernce to Robert and Elizabeth Brotherwick,
have you any information on them other than rough dates of birth,to confirm they were the children of this couple,

As you probably already know. Elizabeth is with Robert on 1841 census, living at Sandy Island.

On 1851 she is by herself at Sandy Island. (Census ref 2412-254-2) Two pages away at 2412-255-6 is Edward Broderick and family at Seaton Lodge.

As Radcliff spotted on the baptism record of son Robert, the couple were living at Seaton Lodge in 1821.

To see the Lodge on maps go to communities.northumberland.gov.uk
Enter the Seaton Sluice community section and under Ordnance Maps look at the 25 inch versions. (Also on map in " Plans" section.)

The Seaton Burn runs south to north before taking a sharp left turn to enter the sea. Seaton Lodge, estate,  was immediately west of the Seaton Burn as it flowed northwards
