154th Railway Operating Company Royal Engineers
« on: Sunday 14 November 10 21:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
Great site by the way. I am looking for some information on the 154th Railway Operating Company
Royal Engineers 1940 to 1944 my grandfather served with the company and from his
letters to my grandmother (both now deceased) went to France and then Northern Africa during the War. I would love to find out more about the company and their deployments.
His name was Sapper, John Charles Pattern from Leicester dob 12/5/1918.  service number 1899264.
I have his discharge papers and in 1944 he was discharged for "not meeting the physical requirements"  but I dont know where to look to find out more about that, he was ill and had a medical spell in Addenbrookes hospital after discharge.

Might be worth paying the £30 to get his service records... If you look on some of the other threads there will be a link to the military forms to do so.  It does take quite a long (and frustrating to wait) time to get them back but there will be all sorts of other information on those.  If you do go for it get the photocopy not the transcription as there is always a chance of transfer error.  Come back when you have some more details and I am sure the more Army orientated than me will be able to help further...
Have you tried the Royal Engineers web page.  Might be worth checking on the Burma Star site as they have links to all sorts of useful web pages.  The Royal British Legion branch near to you may be able to help as well.

Did you see the programme on the tv the other night about Railway Workers during WW2.  Not strictly the same thing but interesting.
Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on...  :)
