Darby family, possibly in Halesowen

Can anyone please help me to find the baptism and parents of my ancestor Mary Ann Darby, born c1811, most likely in Worcestershire. She had a brother William Darby born c1801 in Halesowen, which I know from the 1851 census in which Mary Ann's husband William Payne was visiting his brother-in-law William Darby in Birmingham. Mary Ann married William Payne 4 Oct 1835 in Frankley.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Kells, Wm and Mary Ann are not on the Halesowen St John's transcript.  You probably need to look for them at St Leonard Frankley which is not on line.  Can you post the 1851 Census so we can see where they give their places of birth please?  Linell.

Thanks for your reply. Mary Ann was only in the 1841 census living in Shropshire at the time, assuming I have the right family, it seems to fit. She was a milliner born 1810 in Shropshire, William a tailor born 1811, and daughter Mary aged 5 born Shropshire (although her baptism took place in Birmingham and this is given this as her birth place on her death certificate. I understand Halesowen to now be part of Worcestershire. By 1851 William was widowed. His brother-in-law William Darby, whom he was visiting on census night, was born 1801 in Halesowen according to this census. Having looked at IGI records for Halesowen and other areas of Worcestershire I cannot find a family that matches well, with both children Mary and William in that time range, apart from a possible near match to a family in St. Thomas Dudley, parents John and Mary, but it is unclear.

Hi Kelly, yes Halesowen and it's local townships, were in Shropshire until 1844 (although it didn't apply for the 1841 Census.)  I know that FindMyPast is forever giving Shropshire as a place of birth when it should be Worcestershire.  The family could have been Non Conformists, not many of those old records have survived, looks like you need to do a lot more searching.  Happy hunting from Linell.

I've had a slight development. The Genealogist has a few records of Frankley, where I think I have found Mary Ann, baptised 8 Sep 1811 at Frankley but of Halesowen, daughter of William and Mary.

Other children of this couple recorded as being baptised at Frankley but from Halesowen are Charles 1804 (possibly buried 1816 aged 12 of Illey), Thomas 1805, George 1808 and Esther 1809. I can follow Thomas through the census but haven't found much on the others. And sadly no William to tie in with what I knew about Mary Ann's brother in Birmingham in 1851.

I have contacted the Worcester Record Office to request fees etc. I also have a line in Stoke Prior I want to chase up but might have to pick and choose.

I'd still love to hear from anyone who might have a link.
