I am going to start with the death of Joan Black I mentioned earlier.

Joan Black 35 b. Scotland
27 Apr 1912
At Toronto Free Cons (possibly means Convalescent) Hospital
She was there 697 days so s/b the Joan on the 1911 Census
From 83 Kenwood Ave
Married
Housewife
Cause of death sent by PM (my personal policy for privacy)

Unfortunately there is no mention of next of kin. Kenwood Ave will come up in other records I will be posting shortly although not No. 83. If you google 'Kenwood Ave Toronto' you will get a little map that shows Kenwood to be one street over from Wychwood, which appears to be the street Peter and John are living in in the 1911 Census. Given the placement of the 2 possible children in institutions, I think this lady is probably your Joan. She was perhaps going to be deported for medical reasons but became too sick to be sent.

Will continue shortly ......

I should perhaps have started with these 2 marriages b/c mother's maiden name should help you to be sure that Peter and John in the 1911 Census are indeed your folks.

These are the marriages of a son and daughter of Peter.

Mary Munce Black, 17 (with the written consent of her mother), Spinster, a Clerk, b. Scotland
Of 84 Kenwood Ave,
Parents Peter Black and Annie McGill

to

Thomas Edward Marlow, 23, Bachelor, a Chauffeur, b. Worcestershire England
Of 24 Lonsdale Rd
Parents Edward Marlow and Sophia Brownson
At Toronto 02 Apr 1917
One witness was Jno Black of 98 Kenwood Ave

Bouncing screen ....will continue

William McGill Black, 23, Bachelor, Operator, b. Scotland
Of 102 Kenwood Ave
Parents Peter Black and Annie McGill

to

Catherine Margueretta Conwath, 21, Spinster, b. Toronto
Of 776Crawford St
Parents Edward Conwath and Janett Banks

At Toronto 15 Sep 1925

One witness was Walter R Black of 111 Kenwood Ave (Possibly another son born after the 1911 Census? Ontario births are protected by privacy laws for 100 years although the 1921 Census will be available in the next year or two, I believe.) and the other Gertrude Conwath.

On to young Peter ....

Peter Black signed up with the CEF in WW1. You can use this link below for free access to his Attestatiopn Papers. His Reg No is 1087086. You will find 2 sets of papers .... he was apparently refused as underage at one point. He gives his next of kin as John Black of 98 Kenwood Ave so this John would appear to be the same one who witnessed the marriage of Peter's daughter. (Joining the dots) At the top of the page where you click to see the forms you will see a place to click for info about ordering the military files if you would like to have them.

Unfortunately, this Peter appears to have died in 1919 ...

Peter Black, 18, b. Scotland, a Soldier, Single
20 Apr 1919
Father John Black
Mother Joan Joel? Jocl?
Cause of death sent by PM (my personal policy for privacy)

Mother's name may well have been Jack when originally written but the registry is a copy which means a mistranscription could have occurred.

Peter is buried in Prospect Cemetery in Toronto. If you google same you should be able to find contact info ..... the cemetery may be able to confirm the mother's name for you.

Bouncing again ... will continue

Now then, Jeanie ....

I could not find a record of a marriage for Jeanie but it may have taken place beyond the limits of privacy laws. The Ontario index is currently at 1926 on line and a new year is added yearly. No intervening death either.

Was Jean her only name?  (in case she might still turn up by another name she also had)

Some of this info is circumstantial but, on the whole, if Peter Black and Annie McGill are brother and sister-in-law of John I think most of it fits quite well. When the 1921 Census becomes available it may tie up some loose ends.

Check if your local library has Ancestry Library Edition ..... this should enable you to see the original images of the marriage and death records I posted herein.
