DEWHURST marriage
« on: Thursday 11 November 10 21:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone could help.

I am looking for a marriage between Andrew Dewhurst (b1793) in Sabden or Read, Lancashire and Elizabeth (of Rossendale).

Their first child was born in 1816 and their children were baptised in St Mary's in Whalley. I have searched for their marriage on the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks to no avail and find myself stuck and unable to find out who Elizabeth was, in particular of course her maiden name.

None of their children were born post 1837 sadly!

I wondered if anyone could help. I cannot get to local archives and none of the sites I have signed up to have any useful records on this.

Andrew was a calico block printer.

Thankyou in anticipation

Hi,

Quite likely that it is the marriage of Andrew Dewhurst and Elizabeth Hargreaves at St. Leonards, Padiham on 21st February, 1814.  If he lived in Sabden or Read then it would fit.  I will try to check it out for you on Saturday.

Regards,
Mo

Hi

Thankyou so much, that is very helpful. I hadn't really tied in Padiham, would that tie in with Elizabeth being from Rossendale too?

Hi,

It ties in with Andrew being born in the area,  but  Elizabeth may have moved from Rossendale to the Padiham area with her parents at an earlier age - hard to say.  I will check the orginal marriage entry for you, hopefully tomorrow, but if not then next week.

Hi,

I checked out the marriage at St. Leonards and the only additional information it gave that both Andrew and Elizabeth were of Higham and the witnesses were Rodger Chatburn and Thomas Dewhurst.  Higham with West Close Booth was a Township in the parish of Whalley, so it may not mean that they actually lived in the village of Higham.  The Township boundary stretched almost to Sabden.  If you go to www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/HighamwithWest/  you can click on the green map to show the extent.

Bless you, it does tie in as some of his siblings were born in Higham and he had a brother called Thomas, so looking good.

It is very kind of you to check this out, thankyou
