Any information about Nicholas PAGE, hemp draper, Medway district? Perhaps born 1791? His daughter Janet married Robert Robertson in Chatham on December 27, 1842 before sailing for Sydney Australia.

Hello,

think this is him in 1841  HO107; Piece 487; Book: 1;  Folio: 38; Page: 32
Rogers Court Chatham

Nicholas Page 50 ys Rope Maker
Mary Page 50 ys
Janet Page 25 ys
William Page 6 ys

all born in Scotland

There is no sign of them in 1851- wonder did they all emigrate?

best wishes

However, this could be him bearing in mind that 1841 census rounded ages down

Scotland 1851
Parish: Stirling; ED: 8; Page:  16; Line: 12; Roll: 1214; Year: 1851.

Baker Street Stirling

Nicholas Page 66 yrs Journeyman Rope Maker born Stirling

No other details - you may have to now go to Scottish boards?

1841 - HO107/487/1/Chatham/Kent/ED15/38/32
Rogers Court, Chatham
Nicholas PAGE, 50, Rope maker, born S
Mary PAGE, 50, born ditto
Janet PAGE, 25, born ditto
William PAGE, 6, born ditto

The born column could be an I, but going on S to other names looks like they were born in Scotland. Would say he worked at the Naval Dockyard judging by his job and that of a lot of the others in the same area.

Although there is a Janet PAGE baptised at Brabourne, Kent in Nov 1811, with parents Nicholas and Mary. With ages on 1841 rounded down to nearest 5 it could be her.

Thanks so much for that info, it's given me another couple of names to wonder about! When you quote "1841" I assume that refers to a Census taken in England and not Scotland?  Was then "1851"  a Scottish census, if it shows a Nicholas Page at a Stirling address? If he was roughly 66 at that time, then I wonder what had become of his wife Mary and son William and why he had gone back to Scotland. I know where daughter Janet was, she was in Hobart Tasmania! Thanks again, I'm having a great time!

Hello again,
We did mention:
1841- Chatham - England
1851- Stirling -Scotland

There is a death which may be Mary- Free BMD
Sep 1849  Page  Mary     Medway  vol 5   pg 433

As he came from Scotland, he may have just moved back or have only been in Kent temporarily.

Possible entry for William

1851 Glasgow St Andrew; ED: 12; Page:  3; Line: 7; Roll: 404; Year: 1851.

Willliam Page 16 yrs cork cutter b Stirling
visiting a family called Levington in Glasgow

Hello

I have Nicholas Page, private Stirlingshire Militia marrying Mary Fargreve on 11 October 1807 in Stirling (National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Registers).

Also I think this is his death record:

Nicol Page of Baker Street, Stirling on 1 November 1853 Cause of Death - Dropsy (National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Registers).
