1901 Census Lookup - Emily Holtom
« on: Sunday 10 April 05 23:45 BST (UK) »
I am hoping to find my Grandmother Emily E. Holtom in the 1901 Census.
She was born 1888, West Ham, Essex, she would be 13 years of age.  She won't be listed with her family as she was put to service between the ages of 8 and 10 with a pastry chef/baker and his family, sorry, but I have no idea as to what area she would have moved to, if she did move.

Thank you so much, for any help, Beth

Hi

I found two Emily Holtoms in 1901 aged 13 & 14 who were servants but niether of their birthplaces matched yours and they werre housemaids there was no one who was a pastry chef. if you have any more to go on I'll have another look.

Cheers
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I am afraid that is all I have to go on.  My grandmother would never talk of her childhood, so we are slowly trying to piece everything together.  My mother just found out about her mother being put to service 10 years ago and my grandmother has been gone since 1978.  She had always wondered how my grandmother had learned to make her pastries and pies etc. without recipes, that is when an Aunt who now is also deceased mentioned about her being with a family that ran a bakery.

Thanks for having a look for me, Beth
