May ANDREWS - Daughter of Charles ANDREWS & Louisa HALL - NSW

Hi,

I am trying to find out what became of May ANDREWS daughter of Charles ANDREWS and Louisa HALL. May was born in 1877 at Muswellbrook NSW.

During the late 1880's May lived at Botany, NSW -May had given evidence in 1888 at her mothers trial of murder of her two husbands 1. Charles Andrews & 2. Michael Peter Collins.

I have located a newspaper article that states she was adopted by James Geehan and his wife Mary Anne (nee: Maloney) from Windsor, NSW in January 1889 following the execution of her mother (May would then have been 12). This is the last that I know of what happened to May.

James died in 1907(May would have been 20) I thought that he may have left part of his estate to May as he only had one other surviving child at the time and that his will, would have possibly provided me with further details eg. a married surname -  but that was not the case. There was no mention of May in James' will.

I have been unable to locate a marriage or death for May. I have been researching Louisa's trial hence my interest.

Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Louisa and Chales had 7 children:
Herbert b. 1867.
Reuben b. 1871.
Ernest b. 1872 d. 1872
Arthur John b. 1873 d. 1919
Frederick William b. 1875.
David b. 1881.
Charles b. 1883.

I have not began researching her other children as yet but intend to do so. The reason for my particular interest with May is that she gave critical evidence in the case with respect to the death of her father and also her mothers second husband Michael. (Both had died from arsenical poisoning).

Some facts re Mabel (May) Andrews

Marriage:
7969/1898 registered at Lambton, NSW
MCGUINESS JOHN

An online tree shows 4 children to this couple but I can't find birth registrations for them, nor death registrations although the on-line tree has pictures of graves at Wallsend for three of them who died very young. 

Coroner's Inquest:
Mabel Theresa Mcguiness, age 34
Birth abt 1877,   New South Wales
Death Place   Killingworth
Inquest: 11 Oct. 1911 at Killingworth
Cause of death: Heart failure
I am not seeing a death record on the NSW BMD site which is not unusual when there has been an inquest.

Find-a-Grave has some photos of the older graves plus a photo of a more modern plaque which confirms that Mabel (May) McGuinness d 1911 is the daughter of "a significant woman in Australian history, Louisa Collins, formerly Andrews nee Hall, died 8 January 1889"
