Stewarts/Stuarts Scotland Royals
« on: Wednesday 10 November 10 00:35 GMT (UK) »
Does the Gov't actually keep track of all branches of the royal trees even ones that went to different places overseas?

I actually read a post from a female on ancestry.com that said the gov't contacts her family every couple years for updates on their Stewart/Stuart line.

I can't see why any Government department would have any interest in tracking descendants of the Stuart or any other discontinued line. What useful purpose would be served?  It doesn't seem very likely to me.

It's always *unfortunate when Royal bloodlines are claimed just because of a surname.

'Those'and 'such as those' who's families have well documented and recorded family histories would presumably have no need to consult genealogy forums (unlike the lowlier amongst us) unless perhaps for a bit of gossip?

Hi

I would imagine that publications such as Burkes Peerage and Debretts would need to keep their records up to date, and it may well be that information is held about various Earls, Baronets, Dukes etc so its possible that periodic contact would be made to check on births, marriages and deaths but I don't know by whom.
