Belfast Area; Surname:Hull;years 1858-1869
« on: Tuesday 09 November 10 19:52 GMT (UK) »

Looking to find out info on my gggrandfather Joseph N Hull. He was born in Belfast according to a cousin...Her husbands grandafther was Joseph's brother William hull.

Joseph N. Hull born 1858 in Belfast emigrated to the US in 1869 with his older brother
William Hull born 1847 in Belfast emigrated in 1869.

The only other information I know is their parents were

Isaac Hull and Margaret(maiden name UNK) Hull

B/c of his age when emigrated ith William I am assuming the parents were passing or had both passed away. Anything is helpful since this is all Ive got on my lineage.

Welcome to Rootschat. There seem to have been several Isaac Hulls in Belfast area so it may be difficult to find yours. There are a few deaths in civil registration index for an Isaac Hull old enough to be the father of Joseph and William- don't assume the father was dea around the time they left Ireland.
Since the first complete census is 1901 it may be very difficult to find any records of the family unless you can locate church records.

is there a possibility of these earlier dates to be looked up in the Dublin records(the surviving ones that were moved)

I don't know what churches or denominations would have been there then that are still there either...Is there a way to find out?

What do you mean "is there a possibility of these earlier dates to be looked up in the Dublin records(the surviving ones that were moved)"?

If you mean church records- some Church of Ireland registers were sent to Dublin for safekeeping and ironically they were destroyed whilst the ones retained locally survive.

If you mean census records- 1901 is the earliest surviving census for Belfast area.

To find if church records exist you'll need to know both the family's religion and where they lived in Belfast (and keep in mind that 'Belfast' can refere to the city or the surrounding area). Most denominiations have numerous churches in Belfast.

I can only find one Isaac Hull living near Belfast in 1860, and he lived in Club Row Lane, Ballymacarret, Co. Down (as it was in 1860).  No names given on the street directory, but the houses were all rented by cotton weavers.  If you knew their religion, we may be able to point you to church records. McCormick (Killyleagh and finally Belfast)

IF, and I repeat, IF,  They were Presbyterians, they would probably be married and baptised in 1st Ballymacarret Church, Newtownards Road. whose records go back to 1837 (reference MIC/1P/15) and are held in the Public Record Office of Belfast.
They might do a search for you for a small fee.
