Hi Plumbob

It doesn't look as though they are free to view, unfortunately.

It costs £10 per record, which with your five names will be a bit steep!

You do your search, then it looks like you have to fill in an online form, but it's not terribly clear how to pay for the records.

Thanks Yorkslass

Do you think if I paid the ten quid they would send records of all the brown's listed if so it could be worth the cost .
I have tried in the past to look at the criminal records on Ancestry and found that they just give the name , offence and punishment . without dates of birth / age or address so it makes it impossible to identify the individuals.

I'm hoping someone may be going to the records office and be willing to do a look-up for me a poor lancashire lad.

Cheers

Hi

This might be worthwhile  ???   From the website yorkslass has given you.

Because of the variety of information available and differing costs involved, depending on what information is available, you should email us first of all about the record you have identified. We will then inform you as to what we hold and what the cost will be to send copies to you. Closure periods on some classes of records may limit the information we can make available

Hello again,

So, we're looking for black sheep rather than boys in blue!

There are some historical newspapers online - it might be worth looking at those, but with a name like Brown, there may be many entries. There are two particular newspapers, the Lancaster Gazatteer and the Blackburn Standard which may be worth searching.

Do you have conviction dates from Ancestry, dates of birth and approximate areas/addresses they lived.  It might help to narrow down the search.

Hi Yorkslass

No I don't have any dates, I just saw a lot of Brown's listed and one in particular Septimus, we have 4 of them on the tree so thats why I was intrested. I tried to look at the Lancaster gazatteer  on line news papers site but you have to enroll as a member of the library to view them, think I may do that.

 cheers
