 john f ward died aprox 1961 last heard wingate village   ???

You say he died approx 1961.

I'm not sure if this helps but there is a death registration for John F Ward March quarter, 1961, Durham Eastern (which contains Wingate)  vol 1a page 460. He is listed as being 75 at death.

do you know any more about him - wife's name, any children etc ?

Candidate found so far ....Easington District covered Wingate back then
