Thomas Sinclair
« on: Saturday 06 November 10 04:18 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather Thomas Sinclair was liveing with my grandma in 1919 in Lambeth because thats where my Uncle John was born (19th november) and then my father Jim Charles Joseph Sinclair 31st Agust 1921, by that time they were liveing at Kew Meadows Path at Mortlake.
He used to work for the Recycling Tip behind them, and then in about 1925 the family kicked him out and her nephew went and lived with her to help her out money wise to help feed the family. What I am trying to find out is where he went to and i don't know when he was born or how old he was. All that i know is that he was older than my grandma she was born in 1892, and he came from near John O'Groates in Scotland and we believe he had a sister called Barbara. He might have not gone back up to Scotland but do not know what happened to him, was wondering if someone could help me please. Thank you Alison Sinclair

Hi Alison,
I cant help with what happened to him at this stage but this is Jims Birth Reg;
SINCLAIR Jim J C, December 1921, Richmond S, 2a 851
Mothers Maiden name BONGARTZ

Is that your Grannies Maiden Name?
John does not seem to have a Bongartz as his Mother ???

John W T SINCLAIR, December 1919, Lambeth, 1d 559
Mothers maiden name WEEDON

I cant find a Sinclair/Bongartz Marriage.

You need to buy your Fathers Birth Cert which will give all the details you need;
His Age, Occp etc + Mothers Maiden name etc.

Then when we know that we can find the Marriage and you buy that Cert to get both of their fathers names and occp etc. Hopefully then we can find Census entries fro them.

Trish :)

Dear Trish
My grandma's maiden name was Grace Eva Weedon born 1892 married a Carl Henry Bongartz in 1910 in the befruary and they had a son  the same name as his father and was born in august of the same year. But later on when he was eighteen changed it to charles henry weedon. He took his mothers maiden name of weedon as it would'nt do to have a german name back then. Believe in 1916 he was interned in the first world war because they had another little boy who passed away in a workhouse infirmarey from bronchial pneumonia he was only 2yrs old .  Then they had my uncle Bernard he was born in 1916, his father was interned and did'nt come out till  1920. Took off with this other woman, my grandma had to take in boarders to help pay for the rent and food. And being Catholic she couldn't divorce her husband , and apparently Sinclair used to be a drinker and come home and hit my grandma . They never married the family kicked him out and he was gone my 1925 and the other board george sanders still lived there till 1926 and grandmas nephew Walter Harris stayed with her till she died in 1934 she was 41. Bongartz lived with this other lady and had 3 children by her and in ther 1940's i believe they were haveing twins but were still born.  But every time they had a argument he would go back to my grandma and thats how the other three children of his with my grandma were born Doug, Kathleen, and Alexander. Uncle Alex was only about 4 and half when grandma died and he let his kids go to a ophanage. What kind of a man does that. So grandma's married name was Bongartz but on the electrol role it has her down as Sinclair. Many thanks Alison

Hi Suzanne,
How are you, I'm up on the Redcliffe Peninsula Brisbane. I have a picture of your dad is it Charles, he is very uncanny to my uncle charlie henry weedon (which his real name is Carl Henry Bongartz ) he was your dads fathers first born son. Your dads sister Christina is a very dear lady and we are very very close and i ring her often and when i was in england in january - february for two weeks and i went to see her. If you contact me and give me your email address i will send you some pics of the family. Take care Alison
