Good morning Annie
Many thanks for that suggestion - I hadn't thought of doing that so my next step will be to have a go at locating the baptism registers, assuming they still exist.
The Armstrong family was well-known in the Toowoomba area & I have reasonably good estimates of the birth years of the children but it would be nice to have an accurate record.

Hi there Grasc,

I think this may be the burial for your Wyndham Armstrong.  Its in the NSW BDM Early Church Records, but Queensland was still part of NSW until separation in 1859.  The ECR's at NSW BDM are typed up, so if you were considering a certificate, you will find the same info on a transcript, and they are cheaper and quicker to obtain.

NSW BDM online index reference V1855701  43A/1855 (the V is the pointer to the Early Church Records)... for a Windham ARMSTRONG aged 33.   Do NOT anticipate finding much family history info on the certificate as it is for a burial, but it should give you the cemetery and the parish and date of burial.   I think (from memory) that Volume 43 would be for C of E and in Sydney, perhaps around an inner west suburb.  Several of the early cemeteries for Sydney are long gone, but I think Camperdown Cemetery may have many burials from Vol 43A ... (again this is from memory only) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camperdown_Cemetery and a shrunken link that hopefully takes you to a pdf file about the records at that Cemetery (if not, then perhaps geggle using "Camperdown Cemetery Sydney" http://www.rootschat.com/links/0ab9/  Also these links for that burial certificate : http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/familyHistory.htm  (snail mail and expensive)
Transcripts : http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent (email and cheaper than NSW BDM certificate)

Fingers crossed .... Cheers,  JM

Back again,

Do you know when your Wyndham Fitzgerald ARMSTRONG arrived in the Colonies ?

I notice that the NSW State Records Office have a Surgeon/Cuddy named as W F Armstrong on the ship "Rodney" as a passenger/crew member, ex London, arrival date 15 March 1854...

Dear JM
Have just had a breakthrough. Wyndham Francis Armstrong was born 1866, Bowen, Queensland & was a nephew of Dr. Wyndham Fitzgerald Armstrong.
Wyndham Francis married 1894 at Scone, New South Wales, Margaret Sarah McDonald. There is a website for the McDonald family of Margaret  Sarah & it doesn't seem that the McDonalds & my Macdonalds are connected although I will keep an open mind as the spelling of the name varies.
Wyndham Francis & Margaret Sarah had a daughter Kathleen Armstrong born in Qld in 1899 & N.S.W. records show 2 sons born at Scone (1895 & 1896) to Wyndham F Armstrong & Margaret/Margaret S.
NSW records show a marriage at Scone in 1894 for Wyndham F Armstrong & Margaret T McDonald & Wyndham F Armstrong married 1894 at Scone, Margaret Macdonald. Many thanks for your interest. Grasc

Dear JM
Fabulous - thank you so much for providing the sites & tips; will get cracking straight away. Dr. Wyndham Fitzgerald Armstrong was born (according to the family) in 1825 & was admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1852. He came to Australia not long after that & practised at Drayton, Qld, joined soon after by his brother Dr. William Armstrong (my family). The date you provided for his death (if it proves to be the right man) fits well with all the other information I have, so I'm pretty sure this is being sorted out.
With gratitude
Grasc

Dear Leanne
Your info about the 2 Armstrong children born at Scone in 1895 & 1896 was very helpful. The O in John O Armstrong born 1895 may well stand for Octavius, the name of Wyndham Francis Armstrong's father. Octavius was a younger brother of Wyndham Fitzgerald Armstrong.
Then I found a McDonald website that shows the marriage of Wyndham Francis Armstrong to Margaret Sarah McDonald at Scone in 1894. This fits nicely with the info shown in the NSW records. It doesn't appear that Margaret's family & my Macdonald family are connected but you never know.
With help from you, Annie & JM, I'm well on the way to putting Wyndham Fitzgerald Armstrong to rest.
Gratefully
Grasc
