Elizabeth (Lizzie) Williamson
« on: Friday 05 November 10 20:51 GMT (UK) »
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Williamson was born on 21st June 1846 at Glenochar, Crawford Parish, Lanarkshire; daughter of John Williamson & Margaret Haddow.

In the 1881 Census she was living as a Servant ( Sewing Maid ) in the household of Daniel MacNee at 6 Learmonth Terrace, Edinburgh.

Family legend has it that Auntie Lizzie ran a Boarding House at Tollcross in Edinburgh.

Despite research at New Register House & on Scotland's People I've been unable to find a Death Certificate or locate her in the 1891 & 1901 Censuses.

Any information or research hints would be very much appreciated.

Thanks. I've tried that. As far as we know she never married.

A Miss Williamson listed at 178 Morrison Street in 1891 directory.  She was a dressmaker.  This is the right sort of area of the city.  None of the other possibilities as lodging house keeper fits the location that you have given.

Thank you for your responses.

I have checked the 1891 at 178 Morrison Street; Elizabeth T Williamson (this middle initial would be correct as the second daughter she would be named after her paternal grandmother Elizabeth Tinto). As always there is a 'but'! This Elizabeth was born in on the Isle of Arran!

Her siblings are:

Isabella - 3 Jul 1844 - 3 Nov 1915
Margaret - 17 Aug 1848 - 22 Mar 1931
William - d. 15 May 1852 aged 1 year
Janet - 27 Apr 1853 - 28 Jun 1902
Jane - 29 Oct 1855 - 19 Jul 1937
George - 1 Jun 1858 - 4 Jun 1933
James - 10 Apr 1861 - 2 Jan 1868
John - 31 Aug 1866 - 23 Apr 1909

Thank you again for your assistance.
