hey guys, i have looked at the 1881 census, and burnside cottage seems to be next to the lochgair in.

i have tried to look the lochgair up on the internet but cant find it.

if i could find out were the lochgair inn was, then i shall find burnside cottage.

cheers

Paul,

This may be the map your looking for - http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/25inch/view/?sid=74481375

It shows the hamlet of Bridgend just south of Kilmichael Glassary.

If you zoom in on Bridgend you can see the Inn marked

KELLY (Glasgow), DUNLOP (Ireland, Glasgow), PATERSON (Coatbridge), PATTERSON (Midlothian, Berwickshire), YOUNG (Eastwood), MUIR (Kilmarnock) CAMERON (Stirlingshire, Glasgow, Angus)

hiya, thanks for getting back to me.

i see the map says that there is an inn, it just doesnt name the inn.

i just wish it said on the census wer exactly burnside cottage was,

on the census, it has a few other houses, then burnside cottage, then the lochgair inn.

cheers

Hi there.  I have an ancestor, Alexander Grant, 23yo, farm servant at Burnside.  Is this the same Burnside.  If so, does anyone have a map or something I can see of the farm?  Cheers, Linda Hutson (Grant) Western Australia

Hi Paul

I live in Ford, Argyll, which is just up the glen from Glassary, or Kilmichael.
The maps that would help you are the victorian ordnance survey maps of Scotland, sheet 37 covers Kilmichael Glassary.
These maps can be purchased from Caledonian maps, enquiries {--at--} caledonianmaps.co.uk, usually they are £5.95 each plus p&p.
