Salford Parish Record Look Up Please - Leonard Malcolm
« on: Wednesday 03 November 10 19:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Hope someone can help me with this query.

I'm trying to trace the father of Leonard Malcolm who married Mary A Stanton in Salford in 1924 (FreeBMD Ref Q3 1924 8D 208).

Sorry I can't provide a specific marriage date but I believe Leonard and Mary were Catholic if that will help.

Thank you in anticipation

Ian

Sorry - you need the name of the church in which they married to look it up and this one is showing as a registry office or registrar attended which is indicative of a RC marriage

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1924
Leonard Malcolm/Mary A Stanton at Salford Register Office or Registrar Attended Records at Salford Ref SAL/153/57

You will need to buy a copy of the marriage cert

Hi,
Carole is right , you ll need Leonards marriage (or birth ) certificate to be really sure who his father is . Do you have access to the censuses as there seems a good match for Leonard on the 1911. 1901 and 1891.
Working back from 1911  the 1891 shows a Leonard (transcribed Malcher on FindMyPast) with parents.
Best wishes

Welcome to Rootschat Ian  :D

Here is a little bit more:

"1910  he is shown at 35 Bond street Salford
1918 absent voters he is at 9 Fred Street Hightown/Salford Private  M3 / 02593  a Driver.-

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0aac/

1929 he is still at that address but is working as a Tram Guard"

1910 and 1929 will be directory entries

Hope that helps

Hi

Freebmd shows only 2 Leonard Malcolm births in the Lancashire area - 1891 in Chorlton and 1902 in Prestwich -  assuming he was born in Lancs

There is an 1898 birth in Stockton (Durham) and a 1903 in Bramley (Yorkshire)

Taking the Lancashire births first - the 1891 Leonard was born Ardwick and living with widowed mother Mary and siblings Fred & Beatrice in 1901 but 1891 census shows father as Frederick W b 1861 Manchester - I think this Leonard died in Blackburn in 1962

Using only the free 1911 index - the 1902 Leonard appears to have parents George and Martha - see below for how to use the index.  I think this Leonard died in Liverpool in 1965

USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index

Click SEARCH

You will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Thank you Barabara H for very relevant information.

It would be most helpful if you could let me know where you found this information from ie. 1910 &1929 directory enquiries - as a novice I don't know what these refer to.

Also, the link you have provided to the National Archives refers to T3/025436, not 02593 as mentioned in your note.  Can you be certain this is the same Leonard Malcolm?

Thank you most sincerely for your assistance

Regards - Ian

Thank you again CaroleW

The Leonard I am interested in is the person born in 1891 in Chorlton.  Could you please let me know how certain you are that he died in Blackburn in 1962 and do you have any address for him in the interim periods.

Thank you again for your most generous help

Regards - Ian
