Harriet Salter -Long Sutton
« on: Wednesday 03 November 10 15:56 GMT (UK) »
Having problems with this ancestor.
In 1871 census two cousins both named Harriett Salter live next door to each other at 2 Mill Hill, Long Sutton. mine is 6 and the other is 9.
In 1881 census there are two Harriett Salter's from LS both 17, one a Housekeeper in Doncaster and one a Housekeeper in Chelsea. As they are Hk's for different families I assume they are different people. Has one cousin had her age changed I ask myself.
In 1891 I cant find any of them. Married you suggest, well my Harriet is still single and a Housekeeper in 1901 to a George Wright in Lutton Marsh. Mind you she has 5 Salter children born 1892 onwards and marries George in 1906.
Can anybody help with 1891 or give me some advice.
Many thanks
Terry

Thanks Alan

Looks like one of them. As you say probably the eldest.

If she is mine, should be 26, then that all ties in with unmarried still in 1901.
Whatever way I need to find another Harriet in 1891 and if she married at that time it will be nigh impossible.

It looks then as if this is your Harriet in 1891 after all. Oh how I wish our ancestors had remembered their ages but then I suppose it would take half the fun out of tracing them  ;D

Hi TerryD,

Afraid you're going up the wrong track, Harriet Salter was my great grandmother. The other Harriet (above) was her cousin. Harriet did marry George Wright, but not until after her last child was born. George and Harriet married in 1906. All of the 7 children that she had belonged to George, but they took her last name.

Harriet was born in 1865. Her parents were Robert Salter and Eliza Shickel. George and Harriet's children were Eliza b 1892, Alice b 1894, John b 1895, James b1897, Robert b 1898, Fanny b 1900, and Mary b 1903. All born around Long Sutton.

I have lots of information about the Salter family. James 1897 was my grandfather. Contact me and I'll try and fill you in on the other members.

Best wishes, and Merry Christmas!

The Personal Message system won't work for you until you have made another post (or two).  I think a total of two is enough, others say you need three :)
