The Disappearing John MAY - born 1817
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 16:41 GMT (UK) »
My grt, grt grandfather John May, born 1817, appears in the Census returns for 1851, 61 & 71. I can be sure that these entries are my grt x2 grandfather as his children follow correctly including another John, my grt grandfather who can be found in the 1881, 91, 1901 & 1911 Census returns.

With so many John Mays in the 1841 Census born about 1817 I cannot be sure which, if any, is my relative. Especially as I have no idea as to his parents and from the 1851 Census unless some children died in the previous 10 years he had no children in 1841.

I'm just wondering if any of the children I have found for John 1817 could be in someone else's search results which may lead me the missing bits I'd like to find.   ???  He was quite prolific, with 9 children:

Emma J May   b 1846
Joseph   1848
John       1850 (my grt grandfather)
Elisabeth   1851
Benjamin   1853
William S    1855
Charles      1857
Edward      1860
James        1861

Hi,

I see from Pilot Family search site his wife was Elizabeth and the children were baptised at St Feock - there is a marriage at the same church in 1844 to Elizabeth Harris his father Stephen which could tie in with the naming of one of their children William Stephen in 1855.

Thanks to you both for replying. In particular Junev. I failed to spot that in the Family search site, it seems that the page doesn't load properly in Firefox whereas in IE I picked it up straight away.

I'm off out now but shall go back and thoroughly look at that entry again.

Many thanks again.
