Help Wanted re-size WW2 Photos
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 14:11 GMT (UK) »
My late father served in the RAMC during WW2 Stanley Ford Pte,  I have a few photographs but do not have all the names of those shown.

The main problem is that the  photos are in Bitmap format so can anyone give advice how I can change them to JPeg, and a more suitable size so I can post them in this thread.....thank you Summers

If you have any photo editing programme on your computer, then open the photo in that and then save it as a jpeg file.
Alternatively, open it with MS Paint which comes with Windows and do the same.
An easy way of resizig any photo is to download the MS Power Toy, Image Resizer.
When installed on your computer, right clicking on the photo and selecting Resize Image will give you a number of options for the size of the photo you want.

Download the free version of Irfanview. It is very easy to use, and I use it to reduce photos to below the limit for posting on this site.

Microsoft just released Powertoys for Windows 10 that includes the Image Resizer

PowerToys’ Image Resizer uses Windows Shell extension, so you can select the images in Explorer or desktop and then right-click to open the context menu where you will find the option to use the app.

Very flexible as to output size

Do you have a mobile phone with a built-in camera.  If so, carefully position the photo so there is plenty of room light so you don't need the flash on your camera and take a picture.  The phone camera probably saves it in jpg or jpeg format and you can Send it via Bluetooth or USB cable to your computer.  Any photo app or program will allow you to resize the image to suit uploading to Rootschat. If you don't already have an app on your computer there are dozens available for FREE download and installation but you will need to learn how to use them.  Try the phone camera first.
Just re-read the original post and notice you already have the pics on a computer to know they are in BMP format.  You could use your camera phone to take a picture of the screen and then upload it to the computer via Bluetooth or USB cable and it will probably be in Jpeg format.

This is an image of Winston from my pc files.  I opened the file and had the picture on the computer screen, used my Samsung galaxy ace ( bog standard mobile, barely makes it as a smart phone ) to take a picture of the screen making sure the Flash was OFF and it saved as a jpeg when I blutoothed it back to the pc.  Lookee here ...

Here is a Samsung mobile photo of a BMP format picture from my pc files and the camera stored it as a jpg format file automatically.
