Confused about Death Cert in 1896

Hi

I have just viewed the Death Cert and RCE attached to it which states "not certified" "no suspicion of foul play" on both these documents and thereis no mention on either docs as to the cause of death.

I wonder why this might have been written and also, whether I may be able to find out any further information at all.

I'm no expert (and my Dr daughter is in Malawi at the moment so can't ask!) but i would think that " not certified" means that there was no Dr present at death ie not in a hospital or other nursing care. A coroner would decide that "there was no suspicion of foul play" if there was sufficient medical history and the circumstances of death were consistent with a death due to the known medical problems.

Hi,
I had a similar 'odd' cause of death listed on my gg grandfather's death certificate. He died in Newburgh, fife in December of 1896 and the cause was simply listed as 'alcoholism' - which I always thought a bit vague and not very medical like, he was only 57 and although that is a decent age for back then, his father lived into his 80's and died only a couple of years before. Strange.
Any thoughts most welcome!
