Monk family of St John's Westminster early ninteenth century.
« on: Monday 01 November 10 12:37 GMT (UK) »
Please can anyone help with the baptism of MARK MONK abt 1812 who gives his place of birth as St John's Westminster? He had a brother, Abraham who was probably older - his age varies in censuses.

In the 1841 census there is an Octavius Monk working in the same household as Mark so he may be another brother, born abt 1821, in which case, looking at his name, there may be five more Monks. Thanks.

Hi mjames

When did Mark marry?

I do know that St John Westminster must be St John Smith Square and their registers are at Westminster Archives. I don't think they are online.

IGI gives Mark Monk marr 10 Jun 1843 St Martin in the Field to Eliza Brown.

I had a few hours in London earlier this year but couldn't locate the correct registers - had to keep trying on a bad internet connection and ran out of time. However, I think Westminster archives might have them.

Mark was in St Andrew's Holborn parish in 1841 census, St. Pancras in 1851, was visiting his brother, Abraham in Aston, Warwicks. in 1861 and moved to New Bradwell, Bucks by 1871. He was a coachmaker who eventually got work making railway coaches. Thanks.

The LMA records on Ancestry dont have St martin on them or St John. They do have a few BTs of a few Westminster parishes but only St James Piccadilly and St Clement Danes and St Paul Covent Garden is all I can think of.
