Searching for Beveridge/Paton
« on: Monday 01 November 10 11:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm in search for information in relation to the Beveridge Family that has most of it's roots in and around Dalgetty, Fordell and to some extent Dunfermline. I have managed to gather a fair bit of information, though not extensive on the family history or tree in this area and have all the information of when my branch of the Beveridge family emmigrated out to Australia in the mid 1850's. I'm now tracing back from this time. I know that the arm of the Beveridge's were coalminers or associated with the mines as some of my ancestors had dealings with the Donibristle mines. I'm now after any information that can help in tracking down the following part of the family, James Beveridge b. abt 1675 and married a Catharine Paton b. abt 1675. They would have married around late 1690's or 1700 as the first of their two children James was born in 1700 and his brother John born abt 1705 both at Coaltown of Fordell. I'm after more accurate birth dates for all 4 of these people and if possible dates of their deaths.
Also, while I'm at it I might as well seek some possible information (if anyone has this) on Dorothea or Dorothy Williamson who married James Beveridge (above) at Dalgetty in 1725 and was born in Jan 1698. And finally, any information relating to a Margaret Grieve that married into the Beveridge Family (Walter Beveridge b.Jun 1776)around 1803 at Dalgetty. Margaret was born 24 Oct 1776. I would like to find out if Margaret was anyway related to the Grieve family, who owned the Donibristle mines.
Any help is appreciated
Cheers

Thanks Bill,
I'm pretty sure that this fits into the family structure. Will check and plug it into where-ever it needs to go.

Again, Thanks for the information.
Cheers

Hi Camdenite,
Not sure if you are aware that there is much information on this site. Start with a posting on 7 July 2008 from a rootschat member(now former)- Tom MacGregor headed BEVERIDGE CONNECTIONS. I have an interest in this family and will  further reply shortly.

By chance I've been looking for Beverish and came across the following;
"Crail Shoemakers 1589-1834 (Fife)
Beveridge (Beverish) John son of dec James Beverish sometime tennant in Bourn Syied (Burnside) bound app to Geo Robertson for 6 years 15 Nov 1705".
Don't know if this is any help. My connection is with Margaret Beverish who married Thomas Bottoms 1763 in Newastle upon Tyne.

Hi Camdenite
I'm the 7th Gr-Granddaughter of James Beveridge and Catharine Paton!

Descendants of James Beveridge
Generation 1

1.   James Beveridge-1 was born about 1675.

Notes for James Beveridge: General Notes:
I know that the arm of the Beveridge's were coalminers or associated with the mines as some of my ancestors had dealings with the Donibristle mines. I'm now after any information that can help in tracking down the following part of the family,
James Beveridge b. abt 1675 and married a Catharine Paton b. abt 1675.
They would have married around late 1690's or 1700 as the first of their two children James was born in 1700 and his brother John born abt 1705 both at Coaltown of Fordell. I'm after more accurate birth dates for all 4 of these people and if possible dates of their deaths.

Catharine Paton was born in 1675.

James Beveridge and Catharine Paton were married between 1690-1700. They had the following children:
2.   i. John BEVERIDGE was born about 1705 in Fordel Coaltown, Dalgetty, Fife, Scot. He married Grissel SIMSON on 20 Aug 1731 in Dalgetty, Fife, Scotland.
Notes for John BEVERIDGE: They had four sons and four daughters.
CRAIL SHOEMAKERS, 1589-1834 John Beveridge (1705)

3.   ii. James Beveridge was born in 1700 in Fordel, Coaltown, Dalgety, Fife, Scotland. He married Dorothy Williamson on 29 May 1725 in Dalgetty, Fife, Scotland. He died in 1761.

Let me know if you would like more of the descendants.
Debbie
