Hello ,
My great grandma was supposedly killed in an munitions factory in WW1 around 1917/18 in London , where do I find a list of factories? I have found silvertown but she is not on the list of dead , can't seem to find anymore that had explosions. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find anymore? She was reportedly to have suffragette passions too , I there any where a list of London based suffragettes also ??

If she was killed in an explosion there would have been an inquest. Why not get a copy of her death certificate which will have the cause of death.

Thank you for your quick response, but I can't find her death records anywhere so just trying to find out what happened to her to get clues really .

The Womens Library has a vast catalogue of suffrage information.  And I believe there is some at the National Archives.

Have you just googled "Suffregettes" and or "Names of Suffragettes" and see what turns up.

When looking for her death are you being "too" exact - on FreeBMD it is often a case of less is more start with just her 1st name & surname  and for area just London and years 1917-1919.  Then from this you can then reduce by removing certain London areas.
Or put her name and approx. dob and maybe someone here can find her death for you.

There would have been quite a few accidents at work that would only involve one or a few people and might not have made front-page news, so we really do need to track down her death.

Not appearing in the 1911 census is one suffragette marker. Depending on how heavily she was involved there might not be many records of her, though.

Hi Thank you :-) I will try all those.On the 1911 census , She isn't on the address with her mother and son where I believe she was living at the time so I did think that was because she had taken part in the suffregette  stance at not signing it , as that makes sense. Thank you for your help!

There were also munitions factories in Woolwich, South London and Arsenal, North London. Might be worth checking those

Allense64, bear in mind that many Munition Factories had their own hostels and many lived in these as travel was difficult especially if they lived some distance away. The routine of manufacture was intense and all meal were taken at set times, they worked long hours.
