John Woodward born 1771 drumholm donegal ireland
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 17:09 GMT (UK) »
I am researching John Woodward - he enlisted in the 1st regiment of foot in 1800 - serving in Canada (war of 1812) and the british west indies and northern ireland. Discharged as supernumery in 1817. I am looking for information on his ancestry, marriages, children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have had a look at the Drumholm graveyard record book and have found 10 Woodward's who are buried in Drumholm protestant graveyard. As Woodward is not a very common name in the area I would take a guess that they are all related.

Of interest to you might be:
Elizabeth (Vere) Woodward buried 8th dec 1795
John Woodward buried 16th March 1809
Thomas Woodward buried 1699

Unfortunately your John is not there! If you want I will send you the rest. They go up to 1861.

Sorry its not much but you never know when they might be useful!!

Regards,

Carol

Thank you for your quick reply. I should have mentioned that John Woodward emmigrated to Canada and died in ontario. Other Woodwards I have found names of in Drumholm are -
Elizabeth(Betsy) b. 1783 married James Flood - moved to Canada
William Woodward born 1764.
my John born 1776.
Eliza Woodward born 1802 married John Mills.
Mary Woodward born 1812(?) married William Mills - moved to Canada with John Mills(Mary's father)
I would like to see the rest of the list you have to see if I can put everyone together. It will also help in finding where the family originated.
Thank you for your help.

No problem, the others are:

Andrew Woodward buried 5 April 1862
William Woodward buried 14 Jan 1861
Elizabeth Woodward buried 4 Jan 1850
Mary Ann Woodward buried 5 Jan 1842
Hannah Woodward buried 5 May 1840
Mary Woodward buried 20 Sept 1839
Thomas Woodward buried 1812

The IGI has quite a lot of Woodwards in Donegal but the only two I can safely say are Drumholm Parish are:

Margaret Woodward Birth about 1825 Trummon, Donegal. Father Andrew Woodward.
Margaret Woodward Marriage to Samuel Hammond on 22 Jan 1846 Drumholm
Trummon is a townland which would be Drumholmn Parish then so could this be the same Margaret??

Without seeing baptismal records its had to know who's who! Good luck!

Regards,
Carol
