Martha Edmunds
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 12:15 GMT (UK) »
On Dec 19, 1884, Martha Edmunds commenced duties as Monitress at the George Inn Board School for Boys & Girls under the guidance of Mistress Clara Tovey.  I have found a possible Martha on the 1881 and wondered if someone could please help find Martha on later census returns.

On the 1881 census I located a Martha M. Edmunds at home in Glamorgan as follows:
RG11/5308/109/24 @ High Street, Gelligar.
Thomas Edmunds, Head, 52, occ: Master Tailor & Draper, born. Aberystruth, Monmouth
Martha Edmunds, wife, 52, born Goitre, Monmouth
Mary J Edmunds, daug, 20, seamstress, born Bedwellty, Mon
Anny E Edmunds, daug, 15, domestic servant, born Gelligaer, Glam
Martha M Edmunds, daug, 10, scholar, born Gelligaer, Glam

A report in the school log dated Aug 6, 1886 reads: Martha Edmunds pupil teacher absent all week due to the death of her father.

On FreeBMD I found a possible death for her father: Death Sept 1886, Thomas Edmunds, Merthyr Tydfil.

Can someone please do a look-up on the 1891 for a Martha Edmunds as head of household, widow and with daughter Martha [hopefully with occupation related to teaching]

Hi Dips
Is that all the details, could you tell me if the mother was listed as a widow and if Martha the wife had a occupation.  I don't quite understand what 1/12 means, are you saying the daughter Martha C was listed as a month old?  Sorry to be a nuisance but I need as much facts as possible.

Hello again
Looks good, your help on this is very much appreciated.  If you don't know the area then Quakers Yard might look a bit odd but it is a actual place.  With JB being a collier, all place names are coal mining communities so it would seem he moved from place to place to obtain work.
Thanks again, Roy
