Do you have his mother's maiden name?  There is a Daniel Sullivan who died San Francisco 30 Aug 1961 with MMN = Dineen.  Birth given as 3 Aug 1878.  This in California Death Records.

I don't see him, yet.

Would you know his occupation, please?  Maybe we can narrow options down (providing he kept the same occupation upon his arrival to North America).

June:  you stated he came from San Francisco...do you know when he arrived?  When did he quote his next of kin, please?
Ellison: Co. Wicklow/Canada       Fowley: Sligo/Canada       Furnival: Lancashire/Canada       Ibbotson: Sheffield/Canada       Lee/DeJongh: Lancashire & Cheshire       Mumford: Essex/Canada       Ovens: Ireland/Canada       Sarge: Yorkshire/Canada             Stuart: Sligo/Canada       Sullivan: Co. Clare/Canada      Vaus: Sussex/Surrey      Wakefield: Tuam or Ballinasloe, Ireland              (Surname: Originated/Place Last Lived)  (Canadians lived in Ontario)

he gave his next of kin on his discharge papers in 1917, he  variously gave his occupation as steel erector or quarryman.
i have no idea when he arrived in the usa from ireland.  i know he came here to fight with the royal engineers in 1917 and his last son was born here  in 1923.  He stayed until his son was about two and a half then said he was going back to the states and would send for them but they heard no more.  his family here would like to know what happened to him

Where is 'here'? Supposed to be born 1878 in Ireland (Sandymount) then to U.S. (San Francisco?), then 'here' before back to U.S.?

I'm not finding Daniel on the 1930 U.S. Census.  I looked for Daniel Sullivan, born within 2 years of 1878, born in Ireland, arriving 1923-1930.  I also checked Daniel's who had initials other than R (in case there could have been an error) and still did not see a likely candidate.  I did not check the actual images for Daniels who appeared to be married and who had Sullivan childen living in the household.

Last night I checked for his immigration, but I don't think it was as thorough as the above census check.  I'll have another look for an immigration record.

I'm sory, I didn't see any likely candidates on the immigration lists.
